Short coat, long day

Vizslas stand about 21 to 24 inches and weigh 44 to 60 pounds. A fit one often lives 12 to 14 years. They are gentle with people and relentless about exercise. An hour is a warmup. Hunting, running, or a dog sport is the ordinary week. A Vizsla walked around one block becomes a counter-surfer.

They are usually good with children and with other dogs. The short coat sheds less than a shepherd and still covers dark clothes in gold hair. They chill if you leave them wet in a cold truck. They are house dogs that happen to be athletes.

Seizures, cancer, and the skin

Epilepsy, hemangiosarcoma, lymphoma, and hip dysplasia are the reasons a breeder's health talk should be specific. Sebaceous adenitis is the skin disease owners mistake for dry winter coat. Merck covers epilepsy in dogs. A first seizure is a clinic visit the same day, and the checker is only for sorting what else can wait.

Do Vizslas need to be touching you?

Many do. They follow room to room. If you want a dog that naps in another part of the house, this breed will feel like a shadow you did not request.

What is sebaceous adenitis?

An immune attack on the skin glands that leaves a Vizsla with hair loss and scale. It is managed, not cured with one shampoo. A vet dermatologist is the right referral.

Are they apartment dogs?

Only for someone who will spend hours outside with them. The apartment itself is fine. The inactivity is not.
