Labrador appetite, Poodle coat, neither promise

Labradoodles combine a Labrador Retriever and a Poodle. Standards on this profile are about 50 to 65 pounds, mediums 30 to 45, minis 15 to 25, with heights from 14 to 24 inches. Lifespan is listed at 12 to 15 years. Temperament is often the friendly, trainable mix people expect, and energy follows the Labrador more often than the brochure admits. Plan 1 to 2 hours of activity. A dog that finishes a walk and still paces did not get a Poodle's off switch just because the coat is curly.

Shedding is low to moderate and not a contract. Allergies care about dander and saliva. The adult coat can change after the puppy fluff drops. Buyers who need a specific coat should see adult siblings, not an eight-week photo.

Test the Labrador and the Poodle

Hip and elbow scores and eye exams should exist for both parents. Exercise-induced collapse and prcd progressive retinal atrophy are the Labrador DNA results worth seeing. The Poodle side brings Addison's disease, which can look like a vague, crashing illness, plus sebaceous adenitis and ear infections under heavy hair. The Labrador POMC variant can arrive with the appetite. Bloat is a risk in deeper chests. None of that is solved by calling the litter multigenerational.

Puppy prices are often $1,500 to $3,000 or higher. Routine yearly costs run about $2,200 to $5,000. VCA's library covers Addison's disease and hip dysplasia. Repeated vomiting or a suddenly weak dog uses the vomiting guide and the checker.

Labradoodle questions

Will a Labradoodle be as hungry as a Labrador?

It might. The POMC variant that blunts fullness is common in Labradors and can pass to a cross. Measure food. A doodle that stops when it is full is a hope, not a feeding plan.

Are Labradoodles good family dogs?

Many are friendly and bright. Exercise on this profile is high, 1 to 2 hours. A mini and a standard are different pets. Meet the parent that will still be in the house when the puppy coat sheds out.

What does a generation label tell you?

It tells you how the breeder mixed Poodles and Labradors. It does not tell you the hips, the eyes, the coat you will live with, or whether exercise-induced collapse is in the Labrador line. Ask for results by name.
