The powder-puff coat is a job

Bichon Frises weigh about 12 to 18 pounds and stand 9.5 to 11.5 inches, with a cheerful, people-oriented temperament and a lifespan often 14 to 15 years. They are usually excellent with children and other dogs. Exercise is a moderate 30 to 45 minutes of play and walking, which makes them plausible apartment dogs. The coat is the part that is not casual. It is hair, it grows, and it felts to the skin if the salon calendar slips.

Trainability is good when you are upbeat. They can be noisy at the door. That is a small-dog habit you can lower and should not find charming if you have neighbors.

Stones, knees, skin

Calcium-containing bladder stones and other urinary crystals show up often. Blood in the urine or repeated straining needs imaging, not another course of leftovers you hope will pass. Luxating patellas cause a skip. Teeth crowd and rot if nobody brushes. Allergies drive ear infections and paw licking under all that white hair, where you will not see the redness until the dog smells. Cataracts are worth an eye exam on the parents.

A routine year often totals about $1,800 to $3,450, and the groomer is a larger slice than the kibble. VCA covers bladder stones and dental disease. Urinary straining uses the checker the same day. A hop uses the limping guide.

Bichon Frise questions

How often does a Bichon need a groomer?

About every four to six weeks, and the yearly line is often $600 to $1,200. Brushing between visits keeps the coat off the skin. A mat pulled tight is a wound, not a bad hair day.

Are Bichons hypoallergenic?

They shed very little. Allergies to dander and saliva can still fire. Spend time with an adult before you trust the word on the stats table.

What makes a Bichon strain to urinate?

Bladder stones are a breed problem. Straining, blood, or a male that produces drops is urgent. Do not wait for it to become a blockage story.
