Name the conure or do not buy the cage
Conure covers several genera from Central and South America. A green-cheek is about the size of a chubby cockatiel. A sun or a jenday is louder and often needier. Adults in the group run roughly 9 to 20 inches, and 20 to 30 years is a fair life if the bird is not kept on seed in a corner. Noise runs from moderate to genuinely neighborhood-level. Talking is limited. People who want a talking parrot and buy a conure for the colors get a screamer with a vocabulary of a few words.
Pellets, vegetables, and a little fruit are the diet. A cage of 24 inches square is a minimum that is already wrong for the larger species. Out-of-cage time is every day. They chew. They bite during a hormonal season. That is a parrot, not a betrayal.
One bird, one avian vet
Find a clinic through AAV before the first quiet day. A fluffed conure on the cage floor is the quiet bird page. Sun conures and green-cheeks have their own pages because the details diverge.
Conure questions
Which conure is quiet?
None are silent. Pyrrhura conures, such as green-cheeks, are usually quieter than Aratinga and sun conures. 'Quieter' still means a contact call through a wall.
Can I keep two species together?
Do not assume it. Many conures are territorial, and a larger bird can maim a smaller one. One species, and often one bird, unless you know the pair.
How long do they live?
Often 20 to 30 years, sometimes longer. A conure is not a five-year impulse buy that happens to be colorful.
