A tuxedo and a short nose
Boston terriers stand about 15 to 17 inches and weigh 12 to 25 pounds. Lifespan is often 11 to 13 years. They are friendly, moderately active, and usually good with other dogs if nobody is resource-guarding a toy. The "American gentleman" nickname does not cancel the airway. Snoring at rest is data.
Exercise fits a half hour if the weather is kind. Apartments work when the dog is not left to bark at the elevator. They are not hypoallergenic. The coat is short and the shedding is light, and dander still exists. Children do well if they are not allowed to grab the face.
Palate, cornea, and patella
Ask a vet to look at the nostrils and palate before you assume the snore is charming. Eye ulcers are an emergency because these eyes have less margin. Slipping kneecaps and deafness in some lines round out the list. Patellar luxation is described by VCA. A hop on a back leg after a jump is the limping page.
Boston terrier questions
Can Boston terriers handle summer?
Poorly. Walk them in the cool of the day, keep air conditioning available, and stop if the dog starts to rasp or sit down. A short muzzle does not cool a body.
Why are the eyes a problem?
They protrude. Ulcers, cherry eye, and cataracts are common. A Boston that squints after play needs a vet the same day, because the cornea can perforate.
Are they easy to train?
They are eager and also comic. Short sessions work. They are sensitive to harsh corrections and will shut down or clown instead of learning.
